Once you have the needle in the right place, use a piece of tape on the panel and mark the spot so you know where it needs to be when you replace it. This will maintain the proper calibration.

Stepper Motors

Since you have the instrument cluster pulled out, it is best to replace these things all at the same time. This will save you from having to take the piece out again in the near future. In addition, you will not have to worry about another gauge failing or not working properly without realizing it. You can use a small drop of solder on the motors to help hold them in place while reassembling the panel.

Taking the cluster panel out is not difficult but needs to be done carefully, without force, or you will end up snapping one of the tabs that hold it in place. It is also important to ensure you get the plastic cover on correctly when replacing it, or you could end up with condensation inside that will not only mar your vision but could allow moisture into the motor, causing it to fail again. Make sure to dry everything off with a soft, absorbent cloth before putting the cover back on.
